Cascade Park 2011
The rain never came for the Cascade race but we still had some mud here or there, great racing going on from the Le Mans start to the last finisher. The Le Mans start could become a Kisscross tradition don’t you think? Thank you Breakaway Bikes and the West Coast Riders for a great race. Next up is the season finale in Holland, the drive is worth it if you have never made it over for this one. Cross racing in a football stadium complete with music, bleachers and one heck of an after party! Here are some more details:
* After party @ The Curragh (next to Velo City Cycles and across from New Holland Brewing Co) from 1:00 – 5:00. $5 “Beer and Soup” Special and $1 off Craft beers after that.
* Velo City will open shop from 4:00-5:30(ish) and offer some as-yet-undetermined specials. Sweet deals on wheels, tires, pedals and clothing for sure – plus……..who knows?
This weeks move up’s include:Beth Hall, Smiths Nimz, Joe Kucharski and Ryan Maguire
Caledonia Results 2011

This weeks move up’s include some women dominating their field. Give the next class a try, I know the A or B women would enjoy the company. Tom Moore, Todd Meredith, Jan Toscano, Joe Thomas, Kim Thomas.
Jon Muller Memorial Results
Wow! The Jon Muller Memorial Race was a huge success, 171 racers along with Kisscross Events and Hup United donated over $736.00 to Jon Muller’s daughter’s college fund! A huge thank you to all those that contributed. If you missed the chance to contribute but would still like to help the Muller family, just shoot me an email and I will let you know how.
While we are on the topic of raising money, the first Bianchi frame raffle took place today and the winning ticket is # 2244762. Email me to claim your frame. You must deliver the winning ticket to me via snail mail, email scan or in person so we can verify it. Frame size is your choice! The proceeds of the first frame raffle will go to the Western Michigan Mountain Biking Alliance’s 50 in 5 Initiative. The frame raffle netted $570.00 toward our effort! Thank you Bianchi, Hell Yes and thank you for buying tickets. We hope to build 50 miles of singletrack in the next 5 years and since we plan to open over 15 miles next year we are well on our way!
Starting next weekend, we will sell raffle tickets for Bianchi frame number 2 and all the proceeds will go directly to MiSCA after the final race of the season.
Today’s move up’s include Matt Smith, Bills Thomas, John Kowalczyk and Tom Linck. Best of wishes to Rapid Wheelman racer Jerry Behl who suffered a broken ankle today, please be thinking of him for a full and speedy recovery!
Next week is the Caledonia Race sponsored by Beverlin Manufacturing and the TNR. They will provide brats or dogs and a keg of Founders IPA and a keg of Dundee Octoberfest! It is also the Halloween race, so dress accordingly, you might win a prize for your costume.

Richmond Park 2011
Richmond Park provided some great racing for the spectators. The tough climb and the cobblestone ditch were a hit based on the noise I heard coming from those areas all day long. Please thank the Rapid Wheelman for the course design and hotdogs, they must be exhausted coming fresh off the Colorburst Tour that they organized this weekend as well. We should all be thankful for all the hard work so many dedicated volunteer cyclists put in that make our community so awesome!
Next week is the Jon Muller Memorial Race held at Manhattan Park. Jon was an avid cyclist and only 47 years old when he died from an apparent heart attack while riding his mountain bike two weekends ago. Jon was very involved with youth cycling and also participated at Kisscross when he had the chance. We would like to dedicate the Manhattan Park race to Jon and his family. Please make a donation to his daughters college fund next Sunday at the registration table. A portion of your $20 entry fee will also be donated by Kisscross Events and Hup United. Learn more about Jon from this Grand Rapids Press article.
Next week is the last chance to purchase some Bianchi raffle tickets for frame number one. We will announce and post the winning number after the race. Frame number two will begin at the Caledonia race and all proceeds from that frame will go directly to MiSCA (Michigan Scholastic Cycling Association).
Move ups this week are Shane O-Hearon and Matt Graves. I would also like to ask racers that are racing a second lower category race as a warm up to start a lap down, ease up if you are leading the race and let the under classman have their moment or simply leave your tag off the spindle.
Markin Glen 2011 Results
Another beautiful fall day in Michigan! Markin Glen was awesome, the course was a favorite for many of you, thanks for the compliments. If you missed it make sure you try to make it next year. We had 144 registered but quite a few DNF’s due to a series of flat tires. There were two or three places that had a sharp edge bump and unfortunately it took a number of you out. Next year we’ll fill them in a bit.
Thanks to Pedal Bike Shop, Trikats and Greenware for making it possible!
See you in two weeks at Richmond Park.
Highland Park 2011
We have a new attendance record with 185 racers! When will we hit 200? I am sure the nice weather had a hand in the record. Thanks to the Leadout Racing Team for their support with set-up, tear down and lunch. For the next race we travel to Kalamazoo for our first race in Bell’s Brewery country. Kazoo Trikats and Pedal Bicycle Shop have come up with a great race location and spectator venue at Markin Glen. You have to see this course with it’s beach area, run-ups, paved pathways, an island all visible from the viewing deck. Plus free beer to all the racers! There’s a perk to get you to make the extra drive. See you then.
This weeks move up’s include: Dennis Hamel, Josh Hogeterp, Scott Hicks, Dale Carley. I think we might have to have Brad White compete under the “Russ Tiles Rule”, that being he starts one lap down and has to fight his way back to the rest of the A’s. What do you think?
Plaster Creek 2011
It sure didn’t seem like cross season yesterday. Hot and sunny weather made for perfect conditions to have Founders Porter Floats though! 150+ racers enjoyed the super fun course that the Founders Alger Racing team cooked up, fast and flowy was the best way to describe it. A few people had trouble counting laps again and it is really so easy to correct. Put a cyclometer on you bike and go for a warm up lap to check the mileage then multiply that number by you required laps, bingo, there is you race distance, don’t ride under or over that amount. I know they weigh 28 grams so blow your nose before the race to make up for the weight!
The following must move up a class: John Osgood, Don Cameron, Marlin Steinhaven, Bryan Walman. Congrats on first place finishes!
Next Sunday is Highland Park and Leadout Racing. See you then.

Holland Results
Well that is a wrap on the 2010 season! Special thanks to the City of Holland, John and Rob the Groundskeepers, Macatawa Cycling Club and Velo City Cycles for all the hard work, after party and super sale. The year was very successful due to all the sponsors, racers and volunteers each and every week. 2010 saw a lot of new racers to our sport and that is encouraging to see.
Congratulations to Emily Savickis, our first female to win the annual Cannondale frame and fork raffle! Enjoy your new ride Emily!
It is that time of the year to begin planning for the annual December event to collect underwear and socks as well as donations for the Mel Trotter Ministries. The event will occur on Thursday December 16th from 7 PM to 11 PM at McFadden’s Restaurant & Saloon at 58 Ionia Avenue SW.
Invite friends and family to join members of the cycling community as we help support this worthwhile cause. Bring underwear, socks and/or funds to participate in this fun night.
A new service has been added this year to place holiday tubs at various shops and businesses around the area to collect items from those unable to join us on the evening of the event. If you would like to place a collection tub at your work or favorite coffee shop please let me know. Watch for upcoming announcements on the locations of these collection points.
This event hosted by Priority Health and the Priority Health Cycling Team.

Manhattan Park
Manhattan Park, dry and done. That’s right it didn’t rain or snow at Manhattan Park for once. The worst we could come up with was windy and 40 degrees. Probably perfect for the racers but damn cold for working outside. Many thanks to Cathy and all the West Coast Riders that dealt with the weather all day. Break-Away Bikes and Dean Cohen went all out with the prize donations including some really cool stemmed beer glasses to the first 100 racers, perfect for your favorite Belgian beer! Hup, Hup, burp!
Many of you survived the move up rule due to so many new faces in the B and C races. Where did these guys come from? Welcome to Kisscross! Move ups for the next race are as follows: Andy Fedewa, Brian Walquist, Paul Richardson and John Jasker.
Lost and found again: Polo Sport jacket and Muzuno pants, plus all the stuff is still in the box from the last few races.
Up next is the grand finale in Holland. You have got to be there for this race! Unbelievable fun in a football stadium and a great after party at New Holland Brewery sponsored by Velocity Cycles and Macatawa Cycling Club. We will also draw a name for the Cannondale frame and fork (no need to be present) and hand out a boat load of other stuff to those in attendance including a Velocity wheelset, Yakama racks, Serfas pumps, saddles, bags, Dakine hats, Smith sunglasses, Heed, shirts from Stomach of Anger, some Hell Yes goodies, Soigneur and Kenda tires!
Jack Kunnen will have some 2011 Kisscross Events calendars available for sale, only $20 each and they make excellent Christmas gifts. So do all the Kisscross goodies including, caps, T-Shirts, hoodies and stickers. Last chance to stock up for the year.

Cascade Park
Unofficial record turnout of 173 racers! I enjoyed our return to Cascade Park, other than a few bumpy spots, I think the park has everything a cross course should be including pavement, sand, grass, singletrack, hills and run ups. Only thing missing was the mud but we can’t seem to find any of that this year anywhere. Thank you Leadout Racing for a great course and help with set up, teardown and food! Most of you probably don’t know that Kisscross rewards the team that helps on race day by donating $2 per racer for their efforts. Teams usually turn right around and give that back to the event in the form of supplies, food, prizes or simply hard work early in the morning. Pretty awesome deal for all of us and I think Grand Rapids has one of the best cycling scenes around because of it. It wouldn’t happen without them and of course your continued support. Thanks everyone!
This past weekend was Halloween and the racers always seem to get into the costumes, especially the A’s and that kind of surprises me to be honest, I think it’s great. Best costume award went to Buck N. Bronco (the parade lap with sound effects really helped) followed by honorable mentions Josh Duggan in drag and Ben Whitehead as Lt. Jim Dangle. Also, congrats to Jeff Jacobi and Earl Hillaker for grabbing top spot in the Tandem Throwdown Challenge. Take a look at C Masters results, those are some fantastic results for all the ladies, be careful you maybe be moving up soon!
Great YouTube video by Dan Grow, check it out.
Next up is Manhattan Park and the West Coast Riders, surely that means rain or snow. Due to the record crowds, keep in mind there is a second parking lot off Cascade Road as I am sure the lot on Manhattan will fill up by 10. I will dial back the moves up to the top two this week and after Manhattan Park we will ask just one to move up. So for now the following please move up a category: David Lintemuth, Andrew Holly, Ray Fulkerson, Casey McGovern, Roger Pozeznik, Phil Pascucci, Dennis Jensen, Mark Lehmann. Edit:Andrew Holly does not need to move up. Eric Patterson will voluntarily move up since he miss counted his laps.
Finally lets talk about lost and found again, I have a pair of Tifosi sunglasses, Cateye pc, MCC jacket, some gloves, a skull cap and a blue Kisscross bell. Please check the box each week for your stuff.

Another record!
November 2011After further investigating I counted 197 racers including children. But we should deduct 4 folks that raced 2 races. So I guess 193 racers attended ...
Lost and Found
November 2011Ford car key and an umbrella with a duck head handle. Email me to claim them. Check out these nice photos too
